Design Manager – Hitchin / Hertfordshire – Main Contractor – Design & Build Design Manager / Senior Design Manager / Construction Design Manager / D&B / Main Contractor A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join a respected regional main contractor in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. This contractor is well known for delivering high‑quality design and build, refurbishment, and new‑build projects across multiple sectors and is recognised locally for technical excellence, collaboration, and strong client relationships. The Role – Design Manager (D&B / Main Contractor) You will join an established and structured design management team of six, working closely with pre‑construction, commercial and project delivery teams. Typical project values range from £5m–£20m within an hour of the Hertfordshire office. Key Responsibilities * Lead and manage the design process on design and build projects * Coordinate architects, structural engineers, M&E consultants and specialist subcontractors * Ensure design information is accurate, compliant, buildable and aligned with programme and cost plans * Support value engineering, design reviews and risk management * Resolve technical queries and ensure timely approvals * Work across home, office and site as needed Working Pattern Hybrid: office, home, and site Hours: 8.30am – 5.00pm (1‑hour lunch) The Right Person Design Manager or Senior Design Manager experience (or architectural/engineering background ready to step into contractor‑side DM role) Suitable backgrounds: Architecture, Structural Engineering, Consultancy, Main Contractor, D&B Strong understanding of design management processes, coordination and technical review Organised, proactive, collaborative and confident working to deadlines Benefits * Competitive salary * £6,000 car allowance * Fuel card (all fuel covered with mileage reimbursement) * 25 days annual leave including Christmas shutdown * Additional holiday after 5, 7 and 10 years (up to 28 days) * Enhanced pension * Private medical cover * Full funding for training and professional memberships * Annual health checks & flu jabs * Eye tests and glasses for screen users * EV salary sacrifice scheme * Regular pay reviews * Clear progression and excellent work/life balance Apply Now Please contact Sally Whittingham or apply online to be considered for this Design Manager role.
