POSITION TITLE: Quality System Specialist

LOCATION: North Bay, ON

Salary: ,000 – 75,000 CAD

About the Position: The Quality Systems Specialist is a senior role responsible for advancing the Quality Management System (QMS) and supporting the Environmental Management System (EMS). This position drives high-level continuous improvement initiatives, leads audit programs, oversees risk and compliance activities, and provides expert guidance to departments. The Specialist ensures alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and corporate objectives while mentoring less senior quality staff and supporting cross-functional teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support managers and supervisors in the development and monitoring of quality management system (QMS) objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and continual improvement activities.
  • Support Environmental Management System improvements as required.
  • Plan, manage, and facilitate internal and external audit schedules, drive resolution of audit findings.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis across processes to drive QMS/EMS initiatives.
  • Lead risk assessments for QMS and EMS; identify top risks and guide action planning.
  • Determine with management, the risks and opportunities that affect the business and work with them to address top risks with corrective actions and seize opportunities.
  • Schedule and facilitate regular management reviews to monitor above areas.
  • Assist Procurement with vendor relationships and vendor audits to ensure alignment relating to quality and the supplier manual to prevent non-conformances and increase quality.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering on nonconformity and corrective action processes, with the goal of identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate the content within the PPR database reviewing completeness, map trends and report on opportunities for improvement. 
  • Monitor high-severity PPRs and KPIs and assist with communication within the operational environment. 
  • Monitor and report on quarantine area to resolve stagnant parts or urgent demand for quarantined parts.
  • Plan and manage the internal and external audit schedule, providing focus, direction, and leadership.  Drive resolution and response to audit actions.
  • Provide senior-level guidance on the development, auditing, editing, and approvals of high-level process workflows, standard operating procedures, quality standards, work instructions, and other supporting documentation.
  • Conduct gap analysis of processes and subsequent controls, providing training to process owners to help teams achieve compliance.
  • Coordinate, and at times deliver, training to employees to improve QMS & EMS awareness and competence.
  • Travel between Ontario sites as required.

Qualifications:  

 Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality or a related discipline
  • Lean/Six Sigma/Auditor Certificate is an asset.

Experience

  • Five (5) + years' experience working in a Quality and/or Manufacturing Engineering role ideal
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental quality principles, systems, methods, organizational dynamics, customer expectations and satisfaction, supplier relations, training, root-cause analysis and improvement systems 
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite; SharePoint, Visio, 
  • CAD, and SolidWorks is an asset
  • Experience implementing or managing ISO 9001:2015 in a manufacturing environment.
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA, PFMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles, and Production Part Approval Process, (PPAP) an asset
