A Border Patrol Agent is responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders, preventing and detecting illegal entry of people or contraband. This role requires a combination of physical fitness, intelligence gathering skills, and effective communication.

• The ideal candidate should possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level performing duties such as: apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment; utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations; leading investigations to determine sources and patterns;


• Candidates must be proficient in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; develop and maintain contact with a network of informants;

The above requirements will be applied in connection with making arrests exercising sound judgment in the use of firearms dealing effectively with people developing maintaining contact networks.
