The Role and Opportunity
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Toronto is looking for a seeking Concurrent Disorder Specialist, for our Housing First Scarborough program. As a member of this team, you will be providing support for diverse people with mental health and addictions issues according to their individual needs. Join our dynamic interdisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive support to individuals experiencing homelessness and / or at risk of homelessness. As a Concurrent Disorder Specialist, you will carry a primary caseload and support your teammates with clients experiencing substance use issues. Our focus is on community-based support emphasizing stabilization, enhanced quality of life, and recovery from mental illness and addiction.

Salary: $58,783- 64,407
Hours of Work: 35 per week

Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' psychosocial history, mental, substance use related and physical health symptoms, strengths, needs, risks, and target behaviours
- Provide one on one specialized addictions support to clients which can include addictions counselling, harm reduction support, referral to group support, referral to treatment or other supports
- Provide consultation to your teammates on HF Scarborough ICM team and attend agency Concurrent Disorders team meetings
- Supporting addiction related activities at agency (providing nicotine replacement therapy, addictions consultations, group facilitation and workshops)
- Maintaining a trusting, respectful and collaborative working relationship
- Providing resources, information and advocacy
- Provide client-centered engagement, service provision and crisis intervention
Experience & Education Required
- Degree or diploma in Social Work, Social Sciences, or equivalent
- Addictions certificate or equivalent experience or training
- Minimum three (3) years experience in community mental health and addictions, with a strong emphasis on engaging and supporting a person experiencing addictions in the person's community (while homeless, or in their home).
- Knowledge and working experience with Intensive Case Management and the Housing First Model of practice
- Understanding of recovery principles and their application to people with mental illness and addiction
- Understanding of harm reduction principles, cycle of addiction, stages of change, and other approaches of care for people who use drugs
- Knowledge and understanding of Trauma Informed Care and recovery-oriented practice
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work with diverse communities
- Ability to work from an anti-oppressive framework
- Ability todemonstratea non-homophobic and anti-racism approach.
- Ability to communicate in a second language is an asset
- Persons with direct lived experience with the mental health system are encouraged to apply.
- Access to a car and a valid driver's license is required.
