Salary:

·       Associate - Development Impact 15: Salaries typically range from $65,172 - $86,898 annually plus a performance-based incentive.

·       Sr. Associate - Development Impact 16: Salaries typically range from $74,297 - $99,063 annually plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

·       FinDev Canada headquarters is in downtown Montreal. For the right candidate, Toronto will be considered, with the flexibility to work under a hybrid model (home/office).

Position & Team Overview:

The Impact Enablement group at FinDev Canada is dedicated to fulfilling our mandate through four specialized teams: (1) Impact Strategies & Thought Leadership; (2) Environmental, Climate and Social Risk; (3) Technical Assistance; and (4) Development Impact. The Development Impact team is tasked with evaluating impacts of our financing and investment activities, using systematic impact management and measurement approaches throughout the investment lifecycle, in accordance with our Development Impact Policy.

We are currently seeking a (Senior) Associate to support the Development Impact team in conducting impact assessments during investment selection and monitoring portfolio management activities. Reporting to the Director, Development Impact, and working closely with Impact Officers, the (Senior) Associate will assist deal teams in implementing FinDev Canada's Impact Approach and will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our impact measurement and management practices.

This role offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team of dedicated professionals committed to advancing our impact goals by addressing climate and nature action, promoting gender equality, and fostering market development.

What you'll be doing:

  • Support Impact Officers in pre-screening, due diligence, and annual portfolio monitoring of investment and financing. This includes reviewing client documentation and other literature to gather, synthesize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, delivering high-quality impact assessments and reports.
    • For Senior Associate: Independently conduct pre‑screening, due diligence, and annual portfolio monitoring of investment and financing, while also offering support to Impact Officers in overseeing their own portfolio of transactions.

·       Contribute to the climate finance assessments by analyzing investment alignment with recognized frameworks, such as the MDBs/IDFC Common Principles for Climate Mitigation Finance Tracking, and supporting climate-related measurement, verification, and reporting activities. This includes reviewing climate eligibility criteria, evaluating mitigation and adaptation benefits, and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions data, including baselines, projected reductions, and methodologies for estimating avoided or reduced emissions.

  • For Senior Associate: Independently conduct climate finance assessments by analyzing investment alignment with recognized frameworks, and supporting climate-related measurement, verification, and reporting activities, while also offering support to Impact Officers.
  • Coordinate and update team processes, templates, and tools, and assist in the review and improvement of internal impact management and measurement procedures and practices.
  • Liaise with other teams on impact and client disclosures and reporting, and support the production of client reports, portfolio reports, and sectoral or thematic reports.
  • Assist in the development of documents and presentations for senior management, the board of directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other tasks that contribute to the team's and the corporation's objectives.

What we are looking for:

Must-haves

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, with a specialization in economics, sustainable finance, international affairs, climate change and development studies, environmental studies, or other pertinent disciplines.
  • Minimum of 2 years (Associate) or 3 years (Senior Associate) of relevant practical experience in development finance, sustainable finance, or impact investing.
  • Knowledge of impact measurement, monitoring, and evaluation practise.
  • Excellent analytical and data skills.
  • Superior written, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts simply and present analyses in a structured manner.
  • Ability to work independently, self-starter, and highly motivated.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working within a Development Finance Institution or a Multilateral Development Bank.
  • Experience in climate measurement, monitoring, and evaluation practise
  • Experience living or working in emerging and developing economies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or experience with other data visualization‑visualization tools is an asset.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
