About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Workday Specialist to join our team. As a Workday Specialist, you'll work in a team to implement Workday solutions that will shape how OPTrust uses technology to automate and streamline processes. You will build relationships not only within the People Team, but across the organization as you partner with various departments. In this role, you will be reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Technology and Operations, working alongside one other Workday Specialist, as a team of three.

What You'll Do

  • Act as one of the lead Workday primes for all configuration needs relating to HCM, Compensation, Advanced Compensation, Recruiting, Absence, Time Tracking, Reporting and Workday Payroll (Canada), with a strong emphasis on Advanced Compensation, Reporting and Workday Payroll (Canada).

  • Serve as the lead technical resource for Workday integrations (10+ integrations with internal systems and third-party vendors), partnering closely with IT. Hands-on integration configuration experience is strongly preferred.

  • Design, configure, and maintain Workday business processes and system configurations to support current operations and future business needs, including adoption of new Workday releases.

  • Partner with subject matter experts to gather requirements, translate business needs into system solutions, and configure, test, and validate Workday functionality, including appropriate security role assignments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (IT, Compliance, Finance, and HR) to ensure seamless data flow and system integration.

  • Design, build, and maintain Workday reports and dashboards, working with senior leaders and people managers to deliver actionable insights.

  • Lead the evaluation and design of future-state enhancements to Workday business processes, configurations, and reporting, ensuring effective end-to-end HR data management across multiple systems.

  • Documenting requirements, processes and testing scenarios in a clear and structured way

  • Manage day-to-day HR operations and support, including monitoring the HR inbox, responding to employee inquiries, fulfilling ad hoc reporting requests, troubleshooting system issues, and escalating to Workday Support as required.

What You Bring

  • 3-5 years of experience in the Workday ecosystem, with strong working knowledge of all configurations related needs across the modules mentioned above.

  • Current Workday Pro certifications related to HCM, Recruiting, Reporting, Integrations and/or Security. 

  • Solid understanding of HR processes and employee lifecycle to enabling the design of solutions that support real‑world workflows.

  • Workday Payroll for Canada is not required at hire; however, a strong interest in learning and supporting the module is expected. Employer-paid training will be provided.

  • Comfort working in a lean environment, managing multiple types of Workday tasks.

  • Understanding of the Canadian payroll legislation and some experience configuring Workday Payroll for Canada is desired.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into system configurations.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information with clarity, impact, credibility, and empathy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively both collaboratively within a team and independently as an individual contributor.

  • Continuous improvement mindset, consistently seeking opportunities to streamline processes and create organizational capacity and is self-motivated.

  • Detail‑oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy and high-quality deliverables.

  • Experience working with Workday in a unionized environment, including hands-on configuration in support of unionized employee groups, is strongly desired.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

The base salary range for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000.

The exact placement within the range will vary based on a variety of factors including: the candidate's knowledge, skills and experience relative to the requirements of the role, internal peers and the external market. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible to participate in the OPTrust incentive program, the defined benefit pension plan and comprehensive benefits.
