YMCA Summer Camp Leaders




  • Come join our team of Summer Camp Leaders We are building a team of leaders for our YMCA Summer Day Camps that operate July 6 - August 21. Spend 3-7 weeks of your summer running a fun program and making a difference in the lives kids aged 6-13 Each week you will be scheduled at one of 2 camps, located either at the Downtown YMCA or at Blackstrap Lake, with busing provided to & from Blackstrap from various areas around Saskatoon.

    Position: YMCA Blackstrap & Super Summer Day Camp Leader


    Camp Leaders are at the heart of the camp experience In this role, you'll support a group of campers through daily activities, help with set-up and clean-up, ensure everyone's safety, and create a fun, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment. You'll work closely with the Camp Coordinators to deliver engaging programs and keep each day running smoothly. Camp Leaders must be available for a minimum of three full weeks of camp (out of seven total weeks). 


    The Role of the Day Camp Leader is to:

  • Deliver programs that align with YMCA day camp objectives for participants at Blackstrap Camp and Super Summer Camp (Downtown YMCA)
  • Bring energy, dedication, and enthusiasm to the role, with a commitment to high-quality service
  • Adapt positively to change and remain flexible in a dynamic, evolving environment
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, and welcome feedback as an opportunity for learning and growth
  • Support and reflect the YMCA's mission, vision, and core values in your work and interaction

  • Responsibilities:

  • Be punctual, reliable, and committed to scheduled shifts
  • Participate in required staff training (June 20, July 2, July 3), complete the YMCA of Canada Child Safeguarding Course (online), and take part in the staff clean-up day (August 21),
  • Provide fun, positive, and engaging leadership that helps campers have a safe and memorable camp experience
  • Act as a caring role model and mentor by creating a welcoming, supportive environment where campers feel safe to try new things, build friendships, and take positive risks
  • Follow and support all bus rules and procedures, including supervising children at your bus stop until they are safely reunited with their caregivers
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with campers, families, and staff, and maintain regular communication with Camp Coordinators and the Camp Manager
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by consistently following YMCA policies and procedures
  • Help maintain clean, safe, and well-organized program spaces
  • Complete all required daily paperwork accurately, including sign-in/sign-out sheets and any behaviour or incident reports
  • Be flexible, as occasional overtime may be required
  • Support the team by assisting with other duties as needed

  • Qualifications:

  • Current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Previous experience working with children or youth, with positive references
  • Strong communication skills with both children and adults
  • Comfortable in the water and able to supervise or participate in swimming activities with children
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
