Main Purpose

  • Provide operational leadership across HR, H&S, facilities, administration, compliance, and projects
  • Represent the Headteacher where appropriate
  • Support delivery of the School Improvement/Development Plan
  • Lead cross-school and complex development projects
  • Develop and implement policies aligned with statutory and LA requirements
  • Build partnerships with schools, agencies and external partners
  • Line-manage office, admin, site, premises and catering staff
  • Act as school representative with parents, contractors and visitors
  • Promote safeguarding at all times

Project Management

  • Lead whole-school and capital projects
  • Oversee progress and reporting
  • Ensure compliance and best value

School Office & Administration

  • Provide strategic leadership of administration
  • Line manage office and admin staff
  • Ensure professional, efficient front-of-house service
  • Maintain statutory and safeguarding compliance
  • Review and improve admin processes

Facilities, Health & Safety & Premises

  • Lead estate management with Site Manager
  • Oversee maintenance, refurbishment, and development
  • Manage contracts and SLAs
  • Maintain expert knowledge of H&S legislation
  • Lead risk assessment and fire safety compliance
  • Develop emergency and continuity plans
  • Act as a key holder

Compliance, Data Protection & Contracts

  • Act as Data Protection Officer
  • Manage compliance with GDPR and statutory obligations
  • Oversee contracts and tenders
  • Respond to operational incidents

Human Resources

  • Lead HR strategy and administration
  • Ensure safer recruitment compliance
  • Manage recruitment processes across all staff groups
  • Maintain secure HR records (including SCR)
  • Oversee staff absence and return-to-work
  • Support workforce planning and performance management
  • Ensure compliance with employment law
  • Complete statutory returns e.g., School Workforce Census

Safeguarding & Professional Conduct

  • Safeguard pupils at all times
  • Uphold professional standards
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and British Values

General Responsibilities

  • Adapt duties as school needs evolve
  • Comply with policies and procedures
  • Undertake tasks at the direction of the Headteacher
