Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
Stations:
One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment used in TBM and tunneling operations. This role ensures that all machinery—both on the TBM and within the tunnel—operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The Mechanic works closely with supervisors, engineers, and equipment teams to perform inspections, respond to breakdowns, and support continuous tunneling progress.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on TBM mechanical systems, including pumps, grinders, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs to restore equipment to full functionality.
Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
Carry on the tasks dictated on the maintenance routine, report it in the maintenance book or the electronic system provide for those tasks.
Report to the Mechanical Foreman or the Plant Engineer in charge about whatever issue raised on the plant and equipment.
Troubleshooting
Identify root causes of mechanical issues using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and hands‑on inspection.
Work with fitters, engineers and supervisors to implement long‑term corrective actions.
Adjust, calibrate, and fine‑tune mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance.
Inspections & Monitoring
Conduct routine inspections of TBM and tunnel equipment to identify wear, leaks, misalignment, or potential failures.
Monitor equipment performance and report abnormalities promptly.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and tunneling best practices.
Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure safe operation of tools and machinery.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work area.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with Mechanical Foremen, TBM Operators, Electricians, and Fitters to support continuous tunneling operations.
Assist with TBM maintenance during scheduled shutdowns, cutterhead inspections, and major mechanical interventions.
Support shift‑based operations, including nights and weekends as required.
Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Mechanic, Welder or Pipe Fitter in heavy industrial, mining, tunneling, or construction environments.
Trade certification or apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline (e.g., Heavy Equipment Technician, Industrial Mechanic, Millwright, Welder) is an asset.
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, rotating equipment, pumps, and heavy mechanical machinery.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
Experience with TBM systems (EPB or slurry) will be mandatory
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
Commitment to safety and adherence to all site regulations.
Must be willing to join the local union as required.
