The Role
Xylem Assessment Services under Utility Services, WSS is seeking an AI Engineer (gen AI) to join our team. As a member of our product development and engineering team, you will focus on building, integrating, and scaling Large Language Model (LLM) applications and AI-assisted development workflows. You will work closely with software engineers, data scientists, product owners, and domain experts to design, implement, and test GenAI-powered solutions that significantly improve development efficiency and accelerate product delivery cycles.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, and maintain LLM-powered applications and internal tools using modern GenAI frameworks and APIs
Apply prompt engineering and context engineering techniques to improve accuracy, reliability, and usability of designed LLM-based systems and AI agents
Use and demonstrate proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, or similar platforms to accelerate development
Build and maintain AI-assisted coding, testing, and specification-driven development environments
Develop AI-assisted testing workflows, including test generation, validation, and iterative testing using LLMs
Design, implement, and use Claude Code/Codex skills, tools, and Model Context Protocols (MCP) to enable structured, repeatable interactions with AI models
Proficiency and experience with RAG is preferred
Collaborate closely with software, data, and systems engineers to integrate GenAI capabilities into existing platforms and workflows
Able to multi-task and work in a multi-project development environment
Continuously evaluate new LLMs, tools, and techniques to improve developer productivity and shorten development cycles
Communicate effectively & proactively with the project team(s) to accomplish business objectives
Self-motivated to bring his/her skills to the next level and able to learn concepts and new techniques quickly and effectively
Regularly contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
1–4 years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated hands-on work in GenAI or LLM-based applications
Proven experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity) to meaningfully improve productivity
Strong understanding and practical experience in prompt engineering and context engineering
Experience building AI-assisted testing or quality assurance workflows
Familiarity with developing and using skills, agents, or MCP-style abstractions for LLM systems
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, TypeScript, Java, or C++
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with R&D, high-speed data acquisition systems, fast prototyping, and agile development
Experience with acoustic, electromagnetic, and ultrasonic sensors or general sensing technologies preferred
The estimated salary range for this position is $80K to $85K plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
