Job Profile
The City of Winnipeg is currently accepting applications for Summer Student Labourer positions in order to establish an eligibility list which will be used to fill future Summer Student Labourer vacancies. Most Summer Student Labourers will be required for the period of May through August, with April 15th being the earliest start date and September 15th being the latest release date.
All applicants must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season.
As The Summer Student Labourer, You May Be
Assisting traffic control and barricade/sign removal.
Completing the preparation and clean-up of worksites.
Completing grounds maintenance, shoveling materials (including gravel, concrete and asphalt), and painting.
Operating, cleaning, and maintaining various types of hand and power tools including lawn mowers, weed eaters, saws and drills.
Your Education And Qualifications May Include
Previous limited landscaping/grounds maintenance and/or construction experience, which could include sodding, lawn/turf maintenance, painting, concrete, asphalt.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with various staff and the general public.
Ability to understand and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain.
IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application.
Conditions Of Employment
The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Physically capable of performing all duties as assigned (which may include lifting up to 50 lbs.).
