About the role Job Summary
The Jr. Procurement Officer (Buyer I) is responsible for supporting procurement activities including order processing, supplier communication, and documentation. This role assists in ensuring timely and accurate purchasing of goods and services under close supervision. This job profile is intended for early-career professionals who apply broad theoretical knowledge and requires the ability to investigate and analyze problems. Solutions are typically discussed/verified with a more senior member.

Within your role as a Buyer I with our Purchasing Department, you will assist with day-to-day procurement activities.

How You will Contribute:

  • Follow-up with Suppliers to ensure on time delivery of purchase orders through daily expediting. Includes maintaining ERP system updates and providing feedback to the team as required to ensure Customer deliveries are met.
  • Procure materials and finished goods as assigned for Customer deliverable products in accordance with Quality and Engineering specifications, and to Regional and Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Procure and coordinate supply of non-deliverable goods and services (MRO) including office supplies as directed to maintain production and building maintenance schedules.
  • Using established suppliers, negotiate lowest overall cost to required specifications. May recommend alternate suppliers for review by others.
  • Responsible for working to cost targets or identifying discrepancies where applicable and for achieving and reporting cost savings.
  • Resolve Supplier non-conformances in a fair and timely manner.
  • Recover costs from Suppliers for rework performed by Sulzer to bring material/goods to original purchase order requirements.
  • Resolve discrepancies between purchase orders and invoices to avoid delays to supplier payments and support Suppliers with payment inquiries.
  • Support, cooperate with, and participate in company-wide EHS Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Post-secondary education including some PMAC / SCMA courses or other related materials-management courses; Business or technical training preferred.
  • One year minimum purchasing experience preferred in a technical and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
  • SAP or other ERP experience an asset.
  • Ability to read blueprints an asset.
