MacEwan University is seeking a Research Grants and Development Officer for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Office of Research Services.
The Research Grants and Development Officer administers the external research grants process and provides support to faculty and students in preparing research grant applications from a variety of funding agencies. You will seek out new sources of research funding and partnerships and facilitate communication between MacEwan researchers and internal and external collaborators to help create and build better relationships between MacEwan and various community members. You will also act as a senior member of the ORS team in taking on new initiatives and projects assigned by the Director.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and leading internal programs and workshops to support faculty and student researchers, including the terms, scope and types of programs to be offered as well as adjudication procedures and guidelines. This helps faculty and students to be made aware of the processes involved when applying for funding, either internally or externally, and any program specific requirements that may be required;
Managing the external grant application process ensuring that PeopleSoft is updated with external funder information, faculty are entering all external applications into the system, monitoring the approval process by respective Chairs/Deans, and performing final reviews by ORS on all external grants and contracts being applied for;
Identifying external funding opportunities for MacEwan faculty with various external organizations to create and develop new research partnerships. Networking with existing agencies, partners and stakeholders will aid in this process. External organizations can include commercial, governmental, not-for-profit, etc;
Training and informing MacEwan researchers on funding opportunities and how to identify, approach, and initiate potential partnerships within external community organizations;
Identifying eligibility and interpreting guidelines for applicability to MacEwan researchers. Where necessary, the incumbent liaises with the funding agency for clarification and advice on specific items and conditions of relevance to MacEwan researchers;
Liaising with MacEwan departments such as Fund Development, Roundhouse, Social Innovation Institutes, Office of Sustainability, and individual academic departments with existing connections to identify new research partners and collaborative research projects;
Ensuring institutional compliance with funding agency requirements. This includes the completion of forms and submission of institutional information such as annual reports and financial statements and the administration of agreements to ensure the eligibility of MacEwan as an administering institution for awards; and
Providing advice on research program development and the alignment of internal and external awards to achieve short-term and long-term research goals of Faculty researchers.

Qualifications
A minimum of a master's degree in a research-based discipline.
A minimum of 5 years of combined research, research administration, and university administration experience.
An understanding of the university research environment.
An understanding of major research funding programs in Alberta and Canada.
Experience in developing and reviewing research proposals.
Experience in leading independent initiatives and programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of research-related policies and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures appropriately.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
