ISL's Lower Mainland's Municipal Team is made up of just over 40 people that support a variety of infrastructure projects throughout BC with a focus on supporting a variety of clients such as local municipalities, government agencies, architects, and developers. Our team is part of ISL's much larger Municipal & Community Sector Based Team spanning across Western Canada.  We have expertise in infrastructure planning, stormwater management, pumping stations and reservoirs, linear infrastructure for collection and distribution, and water and wastewater treatment.

In BC, the Lower Mainland Municipal Team works closely with project managers from all of ISL's BC offices to deliver infrastructure planning, design, and construction of municipal projects. When you join the Lower Mainland Municipal Team you can expect:

A Little About You

Your cover letter must demonstrate:

  • Your interest in ISL and municipal utility systems.
  • Your work ethic and learning style.

Your resume should show us:

  • Graduate of an accredited Engineering Design Technology, or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering program.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with ASTTBC or EGBC.
  • The number of years of experience that you have working in the municipal engineering discipline, working with MMCD design guidelines/standards and construction best practices.
  • Proficiency with design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Auto Turn, MS Office Site, Bluebeam.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with design and/or construction experience with water, wastewater, and stormwater conveyance and management systems.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with BC Municipal Design Standards (such as MMCD).
  • Experience with PCSWMM, InfoWorks ICM and other hydraulic modelling software.
  • Proposal writing experience.

A Little More About the Role

Our Lower Mainland Team operates out of both our Langley and Burnaby offices and offers the successful candidate(s) the opportunity to not only develop their skills with an organization that impacts local communities and lives, but also the ability to work on projects out of town and within remote areas of Canada's most beautiful locales. In your pre-hire questionnaire, please indicate whether you are interested in Langley, Burnaby or both locations

The successful applicant(s) will have a get it done attitude, an ability and willingness to learn and support projects at a technical level as required for project success. Your primary responsibilities as a utility focused designer will include:

  • Developing designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other computer-aided drafting programs.
  • Preparing engineering base plans, designs, drawings, and cost estimates for municipal engineering projects (water, wastewater, and storm water management).
  • Producing design calculations and analysis for water, storm water and sanitary sewer collection systems.
  • Assisting in preparing engineering and construction tender documents and contracts.
  • Providing design and construction services for a variety of project types.
  • Inspecting construction of municipal engineering projects.
  • Providing input into project budgeting and scheduling.
  • Coordinating with clients, contractors, and third-party stakeholders to facilitate project requirements.
  • Collaborating with internal and external project team members and stakeholders.

Depending on your experience level, the salary range (based on a 40-hour work week) is:

  • $65,000 - $95,000 annually
