The Opportunity
Build the Future with Us – As a Materials Field and Laboratory Technician in our Calgary office, you'll be hands‑on in the field and in the lab, supporting construction and infrastructure projects across Alberta and the Prairies. Your work will directly influence the safety, durability, and performance of the region's most essential transportation and community‑shaping projects.
Your Impact
- Perform field and laboratory testing on asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soils to support safe and compliant construction outcomes.
- Conduct construction monitoring, including excavation reviews, subgrade inspections, shallow foundation verification, and pile monitoring (cast‑in‑place concrete and driven steel).
- Support large‑scale City of Calgary initiatives such as Calgary City Compliance Testing, Green Line LRT, and the Calgary Events Centre through accurate test execution and documentation.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and complete precise, timely data entry that informs project decisions.
- Apply WSP's Safety, Ethics, and Project Review policies to all work performed, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
- Execute field testing procedures such as concrete sampling, slump testing, field density/compaction testing, and related standards‑based evaluations.
- Perform laboratory tasks including sieve analyses, Proctor testing, geotechnical index testing, cylinder breaks, CSA calibrations, moisture content testing, and asphalt extractions.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and readiness of the laboratory and equipment.
- Travel to and work on out‑of‑town and remote project sites as required.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- You bring hands‑on experience or strong interest in materials testing, geotechnical lab work, or field construction inspection.
- You're comfortable working outdoors, in variable conditions, and on remote sites, while following all safety practices.
- You hold a valid Alberta Driver's License and can provide a current driver's abstract.
- You are reliable, punctual, organized, and ready to take initiative in both field and lab environments.
- You meet physical requirements for light to moderate lifting and wear CSA‑approved safety boots.
- You value accuracy, safety, and teamwork, and take pride in producing quality testing results that support community‑impacting projects.

Compensation:
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $48,700 – $65,500
MB & ON: $44,500 – $62,100
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $44,000 – $59,300
