ABOUT THIS ROLE
We are looking for a
Principal Software Architect
to lead the design and evolution of a multi-tenant wealth management platform. In this role, you will define platform architecture and technical strategy for systems serving correspondent firms and their end investors. You will focus on scalability, security, and regulatory compliance while working closely with engineering, product, compliance, and customer integration teams to support continued growth.
What We're Looking For We are seeking a senior engineering leader who combines architectural rigor with strong execution and embodies the APEX paradox: structured creativity. You approach system design proactively by identifying edge cases, regulatory constraints, and failure modes early, while still moving ideas into production. You balance exploration with delivery and design systems that are resilient, configurable, and understandable by teams beyond yourself. You believe strong platforms reduce operational risk by design through clear contracts, guardrails, automation, and documentation.
Duties/Responsibilities • Enumerate edge cases, failure modes, and regulatory constraints before building-not after • Design multi-tenant authorization models with strong tenant isolation, thinking adversarially about permission cascading and cross-tenant data leakage • Architect high-volume onboarding, funding, and trading workflows with upfront constraint enumeration • Define the technical strategy for white-label and partner-branded investing experiences across correspondent firms • Architect secure, deterministic systems in Go-based backend services and GraphQL BFF layers • Build auditability, data retention, and compliance guardrails directly into system design-not as afterthoughts • Ensure platform design meets SEC, FINRA, and SOC 2 compliance requirements through configuration, not heroics • Drive Architecture Decision Records to maintain shared context and prevent architectural drift • Communicate architectural decisions clearly to engineering teams, product leadership, and executive stakeholders • Partner with product leadership to align technical solutions with business and investor needs • Support customer integration teams on SSO, API onboarding, and white-label deployments • Translate regulatory and compliance requirements into scalable technical solutions • Mentor engineers on platform security, multi-tenancy, and compliance-aware development • Systematically improve platform architecture based on production patterns and operational data • Evolve authorization, identity federation, and tenant isolation as the platform scales
Education and/or Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical fields. Advanced degrees are preferred but not required-demonstrated architectural impact matters more • 10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years in senior architectural leadership roles • Experience building and operating multi-tenant B2B2C platforms at scale (millions of end users) • Expertise in Go backend services, gRPC, and GraphQL BFF architectures • Strong experience with GCP cloud-native services (Cloud Run, GKE, Spanner/BigQuery, Pub/Sub) • Deep familiarity with PostgreSQL and Spanner in high-scale environments • Experience with authentication and identity federation frameworks like Cognito, Auth0, Okta, and SAML SSO • Secure authorization design expertise (e.g., SpiceDB, OPA, or similar relationship-based models) • Working knowledge of SEC and FINRA regulations, particularly how they impact platform architecture • Understanding of SOC 2 compliance requirements and how to encode them into system design • Domain expertise in fintech, wealth management, or broker-dealer platforms
Required Skills/Abilities • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor software engineering teams • Proven architectural and engineering expertise: designing scalable, secure, and resilient systems • Strong knowledge of platform compliance, multi-tenancy, and edge-case enumeration • Outstanding ability to balance exploration during discovery with disciplined execution in production systems • Excellent documentation and collaboration skills, with an emphasis on visibility and shared context (ADR discipline) • Strong cross-functional coordination with product, compliance, and customer teams • Solid understanding of Terraform, CI/CD pipeline design, and infrastructure-as-code practices
Preferred Qualifications • Experience with correspondent or clearing firm platforms • Familiarity with trading systems, account management, and funding workflows • Frontend architecture experience with React or Next.js • SpiceDB or similar authorization frameworks (Zanzibar-style) • Background building white-label SaaS platforms with per-tenant configuration
Work Environment • Hybrid: 3 days per week in-office
