Becoming a Border Patrol Agent: A Career of Service and Protection

A career as a border patrol agent offers the opportunity to make a difference every day in our country and its citizens.

• Typical assignments include detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws, inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations, and gathering intelligence on smuggling operations.


• Detecting undocumented noncitizens at or near borders by utilizing surveillance techniques, including infrared scopes during night operations.

To succeed in this role, you will need excellent observational skills, strong communication abilities, and the ability to work well under pressure. You should also be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Federal law enforcement experience is highly desirable but not required;


• Ability to pass rigorous background checks;
