What to expect

You will work at the intersection of machine learning, biomechanics, and vehicle safety. In this project, you will focus on generating human body model motion, with an emphasis on modeling, control, and movement patterns. You will gain hands-on experience in applying ML methods to engineering and biomechanical problems, contribute to state-of-the-art safety research, and develop a concrete deliverable as the outcome of your thesis. Along the way, you’ll be supported in performing a focused literature review, exploring innovative methods, and tailoring the project direction to your background and interests.

Your tasks

  • Investigate approaches to generating and controlling human body model motion via active muscles
  • Conduct a focused literature review to position your work in the field
  • Run simulations to evaluate biomechanical model responses
  • Explore and test innovative methods for generating and controlling motion, with room for creativity
  • Apply machine learning and/or optimization to model control or movement patterns
  • Analyzing results, identifying key challenges and limitations

Your profile

  • scientific university studies in the field of mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, biomechanics, computational mechanics, computer science, mathematics, machine learning or similar degree programmes in the natural and engineering sciences
  • Knowledge and experience in using finite element software, preferably LS-DYNA
  • Knowledge of Python or another programming language
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Interest in machine learning applications to engineering and biomechanics
  • Knowledge on biomechanics of the human body is advantageous
  • Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
