At Ottit, we're redefining how modern e-commerce and SaaS brands understand their financial health.
We're a full-service accounting firm trusted by 100+ fast-growth Shopify and SaaS brands — including Bala Bangles (Shark Tank), cbdMD (NYSEAMERICAN: YCBD), Original Grain, Mina Baie, and many more. Founded by former Big Four auditors and e-commerce operators, we deliver clean, reliable books and real-time financial insights so founders can operate with clarity and confidence.
We're built around flexibility and accountability — not micromanagement. Our team of 40+ runs on trust, independence, and getting things done without unnecessary busywork. We offer flexible hours and respect your personal time because balance isn't some perk we brag about — it's how you actually do good work consistently. If you're a self-starter who likes solving problems, values autonomy, and wants to work with people who treat you like an adult, you'll be a great fit.
As we scale, we're looking for an exceptional Human Resources Manager to build and own the Human Resources function that powers our team growth.
The Role:
We need a Human Resources Manager who can build and own the HR function from the ground up: recruiting, onboarding, contractor compliance, payroll administration, performance management, and culture. You'll be the go-to person for everything people-related across a distributed team spanning four countries and multiple time zones.
This isn't just an execution role. You'll have full ownership, direct access to the founders, and the ability to shape how we attract, develop, and retain world-class talent as we scale.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting & Onboarding
• Own the full recruiting lifecycle: crafting job postings, sourcing, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, liaising with hiring managers, and extending offers across all geographies.
• Design and manage a structured onboarding and offboarding process to ensure a smooth, consistent employee journey from day one through departure.
• Maintain and improve job descriptions, interview rubrics, and candidate evaluation frameworks.
Contractor Compliance & Administration
• Manage contractor agreements, renewals, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions (US, Canada, India, Pakistan, Philippines).
• Ensure all team members have proper documentation, NDAs, and engagement terms in place.
• Maintain accurate personnel records and ensure data integrity across all systems.
• Prepare and manage HR documentation: contracts, updates, internal communications, and handbooks.
• Stay current on international contractor regulations and proactively flag risks.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
• Own end-to-end payroll and contractor administration across platforms: Deel (India/Pakistan) and Wise (Canada/Philippines).
• Ensure accurate, on-time payments and resolve any payroll discrepancies.
• Coordinate with leadership on compensation adjustments, bonuses, and payroll reporting.
• Assist with benefits inquiries and respond to general employee support requests.
Performance Management
• Build and implement a performance review framework: regular check-ins, feedback cycles, and annual reviews.
• Provide operational support for performance cycles, including preparing templates, coordinating review timelines, collecting feedback, and ensuring consistency in how evaluations are completed.
• Partner with team leads to identify high performers, address underperformance, and support professional development.
• Track and report on key people metrics (retention, engagement, productivity).
Culture, Engagement & Retention
• Champion a positive, inclusive remote-first culture across time zones and geographies.
• Plan and execute team engagement initiatives: virtual events, training logistics, recognition programs, and pulse surveys.
• Gather, organize, and analyze contractor feedback to ensure strong working relationships and surface areas for improved engagement.
• Act as a trusted point of contact for team member concerns, questions, and feedback, with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Conduct exit interviews and manage offboarding to ensure smooth, respectful transitions.
HR Operations & Process Building
• Help design, update, and improve HR processes, policies, SOPs, and workflows to support operational efficiency, internal clarity, and scalability as the company grows.
• Manage day-to-day HR operations and administrative tasks to keep the people function running smoothly.
Who You Are:
You align naturally with our core values and are energized by the opportunity to apply them:
• Customer Centric & Service-Oriented – You provide reliable, high-quality support and build trust across the team.
• Efficient & Process-Driven – You thrive in structure, love optimizing workflows, and make processes scalable.
• Solution-Oriented – You approach challenges with practicality and proactivity.
• Collaborative & Respectful – You communicate clearly and work well with diverse personalities and cultures.
• A Continuous Improvement Expert – You enjoy refining systems and elevating the employee experience.
Tools You'll Use:
You'll be working with (or helping manage) the following tools:
• Deel – Payroll & contractor management (India/Pakistan)
• Wise – Payroll & contractor management (Canada/Philippines)
• HubSpot – CRM
• Slack – Communication
• Google Workspace (G Suite) – Email, docs, drives, and admin
• Hubstaff – Time tracking & screen monitoring
• LinkedIn – Recruiting & sourcing
What You Bring:
Required
• 3–5+ years of experience in HR, People Operations, HR Coordinator, HR Administrator, or early HR Generalist roles — ideally in a remote-first or distributed team environment.
• Hands-on experience managing international contractors and navigating multi-country compliance.
• Familiarity with payroll platforms such as Deel and Wise (or similar).
• Experience with Slack, Google Workspace (G Suite), and time-tracking tools like Hubstaff.
• Experience supporting international teams or distributed workforces.
• Familiarity with performance-management or feedback-based systems.
• Strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and exceptional attention to detail.
• Comfort operating in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with maturity and discretion.
• Tech-savvy, with the ability to learn new tools quickly.
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience scaling HR from 30–100+ team members.
• Professional HR designation required or in progress (e.g., CPHR, CHRL, or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP)
You're a Great Fit If You…
• Enjoy creating structure and bringing order to chaos — and can build or improve HR systems, templates, and frameworks with minimal guidance.
• Love the idea of shaping an entire HR infrastructure from the ground up, without inheriting broken systems or bureaucracy.
• Are curious and proactive about understanding what contractors and team members need to do their best work.
• Feel energized by supporting performance management cycles, driving accountability, and building a culture of high trust in a fully remote environment.
• Want a role where your contributions genuinely shape culture, processes, and day-to-day operations — not just execute someone else's playbook.
Why This Role Is Unique:
• Build from scratch: You'll design the people function from zero — systems, policies, frameworks, all of it.
• Strategic influence: Work directly with the founder on every people-related decision. No layers, no red tape.
• Real ownership: Full autonomy to implement best practices and create the team experience you believe in.
• Growth trajectory: Define your own career path as we scale — this role grows as we grow.
• Critical timing: Join during our growth phase (40 → 75+ team members) when your impact matters most.
Work Schedule:
Full-time availability, Monday to Friday during EST working hours is required.
Perks & Benefits:
• Fully remote work flexibility
• Performance-based bonuses
• Unlimited PTO
• Competitive salary
• A collaborative, respectful, and innovative work environment
