Position Summary
Bayswater is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our team in Calgary. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, student-centered English language instruction to international learners aged 16–70+, supporting students across a wide range of proficiency levels and cultural backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver communicative, engaging English lessons aligned with Bayswater curriculum and learning outcomes to groups of 12-15 students
Teach core language skills: speaking, listening, reading, grammar, pronunciation, and writing
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence
Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and levels
Assess student progress through tests, assignments, and classroom performance weekly
Provide constructive feedback through tutorials and academic support to students
Maintain accurate attendance and academic records
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development
Follow Bayswater academic policies and teaching standards in the Teacher Handbook
Qualifications & Experience
English teaching certification (CELTA preferred; TESOL/TEFL accepted)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Experience teaching ESL/EAL learners (adult learners preferred)
Strong classroom management and communication skills in addition to ability to use technology in the classroom (Online platforms, Smartboard, Teams etc)
Student-centered, communicative teaching approach
Ability to work effectively with multicultural groups
Availability for in-person teaching in Calgary
Preferred Skills
Experience teaching international students
Familiarity with Canadian adult ESL contexts
Flexible, collaborative, and professional attitude
Continuous Professional Development
Bayswater is committed to the professional development of all its staff. We aim to support teaching staff in ongoing professional development, by providing regular training and development sessions that teachers are expected to attend and have the opportunity to lead on occasion. Teachers are observed regularly to help them continue to develop their classroom practice, as well as to monitor performance. We encourage and as far as possible facilitate our teachers doing further qualifications such as the Dip TESOL or Delta. Please see the Teacher Handbook for further details.
Other
We expect our teachers to take part in the life of the school, and occasionally get involved with the social programme, and on occasion take closed groups out on activities and excursions. More details on this and everything else mentioned can be found in the Teachers' Handbook.
