Career Opportunity
Smurfit Westrock is an essential service provider making corrugated containers for a variety of applications. We are currently looking for an Apprentice Industrial Electrician to be part of our expanding maintenance team consisting of Power Engineers, Millwrights and Electricians. The ideal candidate would currently be a Level 3 or 4 Industrial Electrician and would be continuing their education to become a Red Seal Industrial Electrician. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the preventative, predictive and troubleshooting of production equipment and facility maintenance. The Apprentice Electrician will assist in various electrical tasks, learning and building themselves for a successful career as a future Industrial Electrician Journeyperson at Smurfit Westrock.
To be considered for this position, you must be able to work Monday – Friday, 8-hours per day with a weekly rotating shift; midnights 11:00 pm – 7:00 am; afternoons 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm and days 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.
All successful applicants must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal background check, pre-employment medical and a Clear Drug Test.
What You Will Do
Ensure that safety codes and the CEC are followed
Assess problems and make changes to existing electrical systems in order to improve performance.
Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions in a fast paced, high pressure environment
Troubleshoot and repair defective machinery parts
Perform preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment
Perform preventative maintenance on the building and production systems
Assists with the installation of plant equipment and occasionally assists in equipment design
Assists in the plant occupational health and safety program
What You Need To Succeed
Level 3 or 4 Industrial Electrician certification preferred. Applicants with a construction electrician background will also be considered.
Experience in an industrial environment is preferred
Electrical and mechanical skills to conduct troubleshooting, repairs and preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment preferred
Good communication skills, both verbally and written
Technical knowledge
Positive, can-do attitude / Initiative
Flexibility to work weekends to meet business needs
Schedule
Monday to Friday, 8-hours per day with a weekly rotating shift; midnights 11:00 pm – 7:00 am; afternoons 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm and days 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
