Hours: Must work 9:00am–5:00pm Melbourne time (AEST/AEDT), Monday–Friday
ATOM Modular Group is a fast-growing Australian manufacturing business creating functional spaces for hard-working people. We're hiring a Financial Controller with strong construction/manufacturing experience and proven capability in tracking project costs end-to-end across multiple entities (ATOM + RhinoSite).
This is a remote role, but it is not flexible-hours—you must be available and working during Melbourne business hours.
What you'll do
Monthly close & reporting
- Run monthly close and consolidated reporting across group entities (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow), including variance analysis and clear commentary.
Construction/manufacturing cost control
- Build and maintain project cost tracking (budget vs actual) including labour, materials, subcontractors, overhead allocation, WIP and margin tracking.
- Partner with Ops/Production to improve job costing accuracy, identify leakage, and lift gross margin through better visibility.
Compliance & governance (AU)
- Manage Australian compliance items and calendars (BAS/GST, PAYG/IAS, payroll tax, super) with external accountant/tax agent support as needed.
Cashflow & working capital
- Improve cashflow visibility and working capital discipline (AR/AP, approvals, forecasting).
Process improvement & controls
- Build and document SOPs, strengthen internal controls, improve month-end routines and approvals.
Team leadership (remote)
- Lead/coordinate transactional processing and weekly deliverables with a clear remote team rhythm.
Commercial support
- Support budgets, forecasting and scenario modelling; highlight margin improvement opportunities.
First 4 weeks (what success looks like)
- Week 1: Review Balance Sheet & P&L with analytics; begin SOP manuals.
- Week 2: Execute finance catch-up; review next month's Balance Sheet & P&L with analytics.
- Week 3: Complete/verify month completion; continue SOP documentation.
- Week 4: Implement KPI dashboard, reporting & tax compliance calendar, weekly performance monitoring + issue log.
Must-have experience
- Proven Financial Controller / Senior Accountant experience (remote experience preferred)
- Construction and/or manufacturing background with strong job/project costing capability (budget vs actual, WIP, margin tracking)
- Strong knowledge of Australian compliance (month-end close, BAS/GST, PAYG/IAS, payroll processes)
- Experience with multi-entity reporting/consolidation
- Able to work 9:00am–5:00pm Melbourne time (AEST/AEDT), Monday–Friday
- Excellent English communication and ability to explain numbers to non-finance leaders
Nice to have
- CPA/CA qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience with progress claims, retentions, variations, and project-based revenue recognition
- Dashboard/KPI reporting experience (Power BI / Excel models)
Contract duration of more than 6 months. with 40 hours per week.
