About the Role
Are you mechanically inclined and looking to build a long-term career in the automotive industry? CAA Niagara is seeking a motivated and hands-on Automotive Apprentice Mechanic (310S or 310T) to join our Fleet team.
In this role, you will support the inspection, maintenance, and repair of our fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure our roadside service team can deliver safe, reliable, and timely assistance to our members. You will work closely with licensed mechanics while developing your technical skills through on-the-job training.
The successful candidate will be expected to enroll in the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Program through Skilled Trades Ontario (formerly Ontario College of Trades) by September 2026. CAA Niagara will support your development throughout the apprenticeship program, with the goal of progressing you to a Licensed Mechanic position within our organization.
The expected salary range for this role is $50,000.00–$60, Placement within this range will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed mechanics with the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (oil changes, fueling, cleaning, parts replacement, etc.)
- Support troubleshooting and repair of mechanical issues
- Maintain accurate service and repair records as required
- Communicate repair status updates with mechanics, drivers, and leadership
- Support facility maintenance and repair tasks as assigned
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Adhere to all safety standards, policies, and operational procedures
- Contribute to high levels of driver and member service satisfaction
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability
- Ability to operate a variety of tools, including computerized diagnostic equipment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safe work practices
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Education & Experience
- Enrollment in (or commitment to enroll by September 2026 in) an Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Program through an accredited institution
- Relevant automotive work experience and/or co-op experience considered an asset
Must-Haves (BFOR)
- Valid G-Class Driver's License
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, push, and pull throughout the workday
- Propane Certification (completed or in progress; must obtain)
Working Conditions
- Primarily on-site at our Thorold, ON facility, with regular collaboration across teams
- Shop environment with frequent use of tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems
- Exposure to noise, vehicle fumes, and varying temperatures
- Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required to meet operational needs
