The City of West Kelowna is looking for a team player to join our Parks Department in this 8-month seasonal role working March to November annually. Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Parks Operator I – Seasonal performs a variety of entry-level duties supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the City of West Kelowna's parks and infrastructure. This role involves general construction and repair work, grounds and roadway maintenance, seasonal and janitorial tasks, equipment checks and minor repairs, and maintaining accurate logs and records, including daily inspections at the Spray Park. The position requires the safe handling and storage of materials in accordance with federal and provincial guidelines, assisting with traffic control and work-site safety in varying conditions, supporting risk management practices, and enforcing applicable City bylaws related to operations. All duties are carried out in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, with additional responsibilities including assisting with onboarding new team members and performing other related tasks as required.
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in general construction, horticulture related work, equipment operation or similar
  • Basic First Aid
  • Pool Operators Certificate
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Completion of an 8-hour WorkSafeBC recognized course in the safe operation of chainsaws (asset)
  • Certified Irrigation Technician Level I (asset)
  • Marine Craft Operator's Certificate (asset)
  • Swiftwater Rescue Awareness (asset)
  • Sharps Collection and Disposal (asset)
  • Aerial Lift (asset)
  • Traffic Control (asset)
  • BC Pesticide Applicators License (asset)
  • Class 5 BC Driver's License with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (asset).
  • The role requires experience with various equipment, good physical fitness, knowledge of safety procedures, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Strong communication skills, flexibility for shift work, and emergency callouts are also necessary. This position is funded for 8 months working from March to October annually.
