Position: Junior Process Engineer
Location: Colborne, ON.
Reports to: Plant Manager
CCC Plastics is seeking a Junior Process Engineer at our Colborne location who will be responsible for supporting the plastics manufacturing operations team, ensuring production processes are optimized to improve safety, quality, and efficiency. These objectives will be achieved using Continuous Improvement and Lean Management tools and techniques, such as problem-solving (PDCA, 5 Why, 5M+1E), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kaizen, Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), Error Proofing, FMEA, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and 5S Workplace Organization.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure processes conform with all relevant safety regulations and standards such as OSHA and CSA, including identifying safety improvements to ensure compliance.
Support the production, maintenance and quality departments with identifying machine and process issues and implementing corrective actions to optimize production and improve efficiency.
Realtime monitoring of manufacturing processes and predictive maintenance sensors using Majik smart factory and Ignition SCADA software, including configuration, data collection, analysis, and remote control as required.
Assist with designing new or modifying existing processes including equipment specification, procurement, and plant layouts using CAD.
Support the development, production and quality departments to optimize manufacturing processes including product formulation, line throughput, batch blending, continuous feed systems, twin-screw extrusion, and Henschel high-intensity mixing.
Create, update, and maintain engineering documentation including process parameters, standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch records, plant layout drawings, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
Support the development and production departments with new or modified products and processes, including planning, conducting, and analyzing controlled tests, as well as report findings and recommendations to the project team.
Support capital projects through equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and process validation.
Support the compliance team with maintaining our ISO 9001 QMS Program as it pertains to engineering and production records.
Define, set and maintain process conditions and ensure manuals are kept current.
This position will require occasional travel to the USA.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field preferred.
Diploma in manufacturing, mechanical or chemical engineering technology will be considered.
1 – 3 years experience in compounding and extrusion of polyolefin and PVC-based compounds a definite asset.
1 – 3 years experience in plastic material handling systems, including storage silos, grinders, ribbon blenders, vacuum conveying, Brabender gravimetric and volumetric feeders a definite asset.
1 – 3 years experience in configuration and operation of co-rotating twin screw extruders, including screw design a definite asset.
Understanding of Industry 4.0 technologies (smart manufacturing), key concepts, and their application, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), cloud computing, data and analytics.
Understanding of SCADA industrial systems, real-time monitoring, data collection, remote access and control of machinery.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD with the ability to create, edit, and manage 2D technical drawings.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification is considered an asset.
Project Management Professional certification is considered an asset.
Exposure to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard is considered an asset.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations, pivot tables and spreadsheets using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Planner.
Communicate with clarity in all situations including written, verbal and in team settings.
This is a replacement role paying between $75,000 and $85,000
