About The Role
D-Wave is seeking a Director, Cryogenic Packaging to lead the strategy, development, and production of cryogenic and superconducting packaging technologies for our Quantum Processor Units (QPUs). This role ensures D-Wave continues to develop and maintain access to the packaging technologies required to deliver the next generation of products aligned with our long-term quantum computing roadmap. You will focus on technical strategy, leadership, vendor partnerships, scalable execution, and engage with and enable subject matter experts.
What You'll Do
Superconducting PCB Manufacturing Capability:
Own superconducting PCB manufacturing capability, including capacity planning, technology maturation, quality, and operational readiness
Lead, develop, and scale the Cryogenic Packaging and Superconducting PCB Manufacturing teams, building leadership depth, succession plans, and long-term organizational resilience
Multi-chip Cryogenic Integrated Circuit Packaging Technology
Own the long-term technical vision and roadmap alignment for cryogenic and superconducting multi-chip packaging, ensuring near-term execution enables future platform generations
Ensure reliable access to superconducting multi-chip packaging technologies aligned with D-Wave's product roadmap
Overall leadership for Cryogenic Packaging of QPUs (Burnaby R&D facility):
Set the cultural, technical, and scientific bar for the Cryogenic Packaging, balancing rigor, creativity, learning, and delivery at scale
Anticipate future system and product requirements, partnering with technical SMEs to develop capabilities ahead of demand
Establish frameworks to evaluate emerging technologies, academic research, and external innovations, determining when and how to integrate them into the product roadmap
Build and maintain critical vendor and partner relationships, ensuring reliable, long-term access to advanced packaging technologies
Guide cross-functional technical alignment across hardware, fabrication, cryogenics, systems, and product leadership, resolving priority conflicts and driving consensus
Champion disciplined experimentation and portfolio-level risk management, balancing exploratory R&D with production readiness and operational reliability
Translate technical progress, risks, and trade-offs into executive-level insights to inform company-wide strategy and investment decisions
Establish operational rigor, including risk management, confidentiality, quality standards, and scalable processes across packaging programs
Represent cryogenic packaging at the company level, serving as a trusted technical and strategic advisor to senior leadership on matters impacting the quantum platform
About You
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field
15+ years of experience in advanced hardware or technology development
7+ years of people leadership experience in a technical, R&D, or manufacturing environments
Proven success leading complex, multidisciplinary technology programs from development through production
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-performing teams, with a strong commitment to inclusion, growth, and accountability
Sound judgment and decision-making ability in ambiguous, high-impact situations
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear business and executive-level insights
Ability to collaborate across disciplines, adapt strategy to constraints, and deliver results with quality and reliability

The Base Pay Range For This Role Is
$164,360 - $305,240 CAD per year (Burnaby)
