• Typical assignments include:

1. Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration laws;
2. Inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations;
3. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions;

We offer a range of qualifications including experience, education substitution, or combination thereof. You must be a U.S. citizen with primary U.S. residency for at least three out of the last five years. Age restriction may apply depending on your status as a federal civilian law enforcement officer.

You'll start as GL-5 agents but can progress through grade levels (GL-7/GL-9/GS-11) based on performance over time. Promotions occur after completing 52 weeks in each grade level without needing reapplication processes.
