This role is based in Grand Rapids, MI, with a flexible blend of onsite and hybrid working arrangements, requiring your presence in the office for 3-4 days each week. A comprehensive corporate relocation package is available for eligible candidates. As the Manager of Embedded Software within the Platform & Test Software Engineering team, you will play a critical role in both people and technical leadership. Your goal is to promote collaboration across various engineering and business product areas to develop a cohesive Platform Software strategy. You will provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to our software team, particularly in Verification & Validation (V&V) for our embedded software products. Roles and Responsibilities: Guide the software team to ensure optimal responsiveness, reliability, and functionality. Oversee talent management processes including recruitment, staffing assessments, and project assignments. Define and manage the scope, cost, and schedule for team tasks, ensuring alignment with project objectives. Establish and monitor key metrics to track team progress and product readiness, taking corrective actions as necessary. Utilize daily management techniques focusing on continuous improvement and aligning daily actions with strategic goals. Engage and manage suppliers to support project needs. Foster personnel development through training, career counseling, and performance evaluations. Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, tools, and processes to enhance project outcomes. Drive productivity improvements by identifying and implementing best practices. Lead or contribute to cost estimation efforts for project proposals. Proactively address potential roadblocks and streamline processes for your team. Collaborate with customers, product leaders, and industry experts to align software development with market demands and technology roadmaps. Mentor technical teams throughout the software development life cycle including requirements gathering, design, implementation, V&V, and certification. Develop and implement V&V strategies, environments, and deployment processes focused on reusability across products. Lead initiatives for Continuous Integration and Build Environment improvements. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of 10 years of experience in software technology and embedded real-time systems/software development across the full development life cycle. At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an engineering environment. Eligibility Requirements: This position requires U.S. citizenship status. Desired Characteristics: Minimum of 5 years of experience with DO-178C avionics software development processes and certification standards. Master's degree in an Engineering-related field from an accredited institution. Knowledge of DO-254, DO-297, and ARP4754 certification standards. Experience with Earned Value and Activity-Based Management methods. Strong background in real-time embedded software architecture and design in an avionics context, collaborating within cross-functional teams. Proficiency in Model-Based Design (MBD) for software architecture and design of real-time systems. Proven ability in leading large-scale software development projects with an emphasis on V&V. Experience in Continuous Build, Testing, and Integration methodologies, including hardware-in-the-loop testing. Familiarity with computing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures. Experience with real-time operating systems. Capacity to influence product leadership and technology strategy. Experience leading global and virtual teams. Demonstrated leadership in applying and advancing cutting-edge software technologies. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organization. The base salary range for this position is $121,500.00 - $162,100.00, with the specific compensation influenced by your experience, education, and skills. This role also offers an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. The application for this role is open until 03/31/26.
