Spring Break Camp Youth Worker

The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa- nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to- government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ identity.

Position Summary

The Department of Huuḥtakšiiḥinʔaała is hiring one Youth Worker to help run fun and engaging spring break program (March 9 to March 20) for children and youth. The Youth Worker will support daily activities, help supervise outings, and learn from experienced staff and cultural mentors. This is a great opportunity for students who want to build experience working with kids, learn more about leadership, and spend time outside this spring break.

This position is also a learning opportunity; the Youth Worker will receive guidance and mentorship while helping to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for younger participants.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of summer programming for children and youth ages 8–13
• Support daily activities such as cultural workshops, land-based learning, arts & crafts, wellness sessions and leadership sessions
• Build respectful, caring relationships with younger participants and role model positive behaviour
• Help prepare, organize, and clean up activity spaces and materials
• Participate in field trips and cultural outings, ensuring safety and inclusion for all participants
• Take initiative in supporting youth with diverse needs in a trauma-informed and culturally safe manner

Qualifications

Training, Education and Experience

• Valid First Aid and CPR-C certification is an asset
• Willingness to participate in all required staff orientation and safety training
• Must be an Indigenous secondary or post-secondary student enrolled in school
• Previous experience volunteering, babysitting, or working with children or youth is an asset
• Must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the program

• Interest in working with children and youth in an active, supportive role
• Willingness to learn about Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture, teachings, and community values
• Comfortable participating in outdoor activities and team-based settings
• Strong communication, teamwork, and listening skills
• Ability to follow directions, ask for help when needed, and take initiative

Work Environment

• Programs are delivered in both indoor and outdoor settings, including gymnasiums, forest trails, beaches, and community gathering spaces
• Active, fast-paced, and youth-focused environment
• Youth Workers will be expected to participate in physical activities and group games
• Staff will work as part of a supportive team with guidance from program leaders, cultural mentors, and Elders
• Some flexibility may be required for early starts, late pick-ups, or special event days
