About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-time Lead, Business Intelligence Product Developer to join our dynamic Data and Analytics Centre of Excellence team in our Digital Solutions Technology division.

The Data and Analytics Centre of Excellence team empowers business units with the clarity, confidence, and tools needed to leverage deep analysis, modeling, agility, and forecasting. Its mission is to elevate data-driven decision-making and support more efficient, high-performing systems that deliver exceptional quality and value. 

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Analytics, the Lead, Business Intelligence Product Developer brings profound expertise in creating advanced visualizations and interactive applications, essential for informed decision-making and translating knowledge. This role emphasizes extensive work in geospatial analysis and visualization to enhance business user analytics. Additionally, it involves mentoring interns and practicum students in data visualization and geospatial analysis. The role supports data visualization requirements for healthy donor base modelling initiatives and contributes to achieving organizational strategic goals.
 

Formula for Success

  • Applying your strong analytical skills in business intelligence initiatives, you will define and refine products to create actionable analytical outputs.
  • Leveraging your expertise in business intelligence in solution design, you will architect and implement products, including glossaries, data visualizations, methodologies, and deployment strategies.
  • Utilizing your data analysis skills in feature development, you will generate data-driven insights that condense business-relevant concepts and support decision-making.
  • Developing your leadership capabilities in mentoring, you will guide interns and practicum students to grow their skills in data visualization and geospatial analysis.
  • Harnessing your collaboration skills in cross-functional projects, you will work closely with domain experts to integrate business intelligence products into decision-making frameworks.
  • Employing your business analysis skills in requirements translation, you will convert business needs into conceptual models and prototypes at an appropriate level of detail.
  • Applying your expertise in data modelling in communication, you will translate complex data models into interactive tools to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Exercising your communication skills in knowledge-sharing activities, you will facilitate learning and advance thought leadership within the organization.
  • Extending your networking capabilities in stakeholder engagement, you will enhance the reputation of the Centre of Excellence through presentations and active outreach.

Desired Education and Skills

  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering or related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. 
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in BI development, with a strong record of accomplishment of working on data visualization projects.
  • Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI etc.
  • Expertise with geospatial analysis and visualization tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, Mapbox, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, especially their geospatial services.
  • Experience with database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to lead and mentor interns and practicum students on short term projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively conveying complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week. 
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd/1800 Alta Vista Drive, quarterly for in-person team meetings, and as required.
