Role Purpose
The Human Resources Generalist serves as a strategic HR partner supporting LabX Media Group's growing, multi-location workforce across Canada, the US, and the UK. This role provides comprehensive HR support across the employee lifecycle - from recruitment and onboarding through employee relations, performance management, compliance, and offboarding - while contributing to HR initiatives that enhance employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
As a member of the HR team, the Human Resources Generalist balances tactical execution with strategic thinking, acting as a trusted advisor to employees and managers while ensuring HR practices align with business objectives, legal requirements, and our values of inclusion and accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Advisory (30%)
- Serve as an HR advisor to employees and managers on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance management, corrective action, accommodations, accessibility, and workplace culture.
- Interpret and apply HR policies, employment standards, and labour laws to ensure fair, consistent people practices.
- Partner with managers on performance concerns, including coaching and facilitating difficult conversations, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
- Monitor employee sentiment through informal feedback, exit interviews, and engagement survey data; identify trends and recommend proactive interventions.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding (25%)
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for assigned departments/roles, including job description development, sourcing strategy, posting, screening, interviewing, and candidate experience.
- Partner with hiring managers to support effective and timely hiring decisions.
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation logistics across Canada and the US.
- Ensure timely completion of all pre-employment and onboarding documentation, including background checks and work authorization documentation.
HR Compliance & Administration (25%)
- Ensure multi-jurisdictional compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Administer and maintain the HRIS system (BambooHR), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Process employee lifecycle changes, including hires, promotions, transfers, leaves, and terminations.
- Administer benefits enrollments, changes, and annual open enrollment coordination.
- Generate and maintain HR reports and analytics to support decision-making, and work closely with the accounting and finance team to support ongoing forecast and budget reporting.
- Administer leave programs, including vacation, sick leave, parental leave, long-term disability, and statutory leaves across jurisdictions.
- Coordinate payroll-related activities by ensuring accurate employee data flows to the payroll provider and resolving discrepancies.
Performance Management & Employee Development (10%)
- Facilitate performance review cycles, ensuring completion, quality, calibration, and fairness across departments.
- Train and support managers on feedback, goal setting, performance documentation, and PIPs.
- Identify learning and development needs using performance data, manager input, and employee feedback.
- Coordinate access to training resources, including online learning, conferences, and mentorship programs.
HR Projects & Process Improvement (10%)
- Lead or contribute to HR initiatives that improve employee experience, culture, and operational effectiveness.
- Support employee handbook updates and policy development.
- Plan and execute employee engagement and recognition programs.
- Participate in HR technology implementations and system upgrades.
- Assist with compensation benchmarking and salary structure reviews.
- Support organizational change, including restructures, acquisitions/integrations, and workforce planning.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive HR generalist experience in a fast-paced environment
- Experience supporting multi-location or multi-jurisdictional workforces (Canada/US/UK experience highly valued)
- Proven track record in managing employee relations matters, including investigations and performance management
- Full-cycle recruitment experience from sourcing through offer negotiation
- HRIS proficiency: Experience with ADP, BambooHR, or similar platforms
- Working knowledge of HR compliance and employment standards regulations in Canada, the US, and the UK
