We need individuals who gladly confront the toughest challenges the organization faces. Join our Stablecoin Payments team at Coinbase and play a crucial role in shaping the future of finance. We are developing fundamental infrastructure for stablecoin payments that enable rapid, secure, and scalable money movements on a global scale. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and scale systems that support deposits, withdrawals, and third-party payments across various Coinbase products, including Retail, Exchange, Prime, and Custody. You will spearhead high-impact projects, integrate new blockchains, and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver stablecoin utilities to businesses of all sizes. Your responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and maintaining backend systems that facilitate stablecoin payments, deposits, and withdrawals. Taking ownership as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for key projects, guiding them from design to production. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, design, infrastructure, and compliance, to deliver robust, scalable solutions. Working with various teams across Coinbase to integrate stablecoin features into our primary products. Building internal and external APIs that enable seamless stablecoin transactions for businesses and partners. Identifying and resolving performance, scalability, and reliability issues within our systems. Mentoring junior engineers and nurturing a strong, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture. Staying informed about the evolving crypto landscape and spotting opportunities for enhancements, adoption, and innovation in stablecoin infrastructure. What we are looking for: At least 5 years of experience in software engineering. A proven track record in building and maintaining large-scale backend systems, particularly in fintech, payments, or crypto. Strong expertise in backend technologies like Go, Java, or similar, as well as cloud infrastructures such as AWS or GCP. A solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and system architecture. Experience with crypto or blockchain technologies is a plus but not required. A product-focused engineering mindset that values the reasoning behind your work. A proactive ownership attitude, capable of leading projects from inception to execution as a DRI. A collaborative nature, able to work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams. A genuine passion for building foundational technology in an impactful and fast-evolving sector. Preferred qualifications: Experience with stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, or on-chain payment systems. Familiarity with smart contract platforms like Ethereum, Solana, or Base, along with relevant developer tools. Contributions to open-source crypto or blockchain initiatives. Experience creating multi-chain or cross-chain applications. Understanding of regulatory or compliance challenges related to crypto payments. An interest in tokenomics, financial primitives, or digital asset infrastructures. Prior experience in startup or hyper-growth environments where adaptability is crucial.
