The role of a border security specialist is to safeguard the nation's borders and prevent illicit activity.

• Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws, ensuring compliance with regulations.

• Identifying and preventing undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the borders, thereby maintaining national security.

Main duties include interpreting tracks and other physical evidence of illegal entry into the country. This requires keen observation skills as well as knowledge of terrain mapping techniques.

Ongoing responsibilities may involve performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks in designated areas for transportation purposes only.
