Job Description:

Lotus Group is proud to partner with our Alberta-based client to recruit a Civil Estimator to support an increasing volume of bid opportunities and help position the company for its next phase of growth. The Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for a wide variety of civil construction projects. Reporting to the Project Manager & Head Estimator, this role focuses on full material takeoffs, pricing development, subcontractor coordination, and proposal preparation, with estimating ownership from bid intake through award handoff.

This is a hands-on estimating role best suited for someone who understands civil scopes, thrives in a fast-paced bid environment, and values teamwork, accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Role Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze drawings, specifications, bid documents, and clarifications
  • Participate in pre-bid and post-bid meetings to clarify project scope and address client questions
  • Complete detailed quantity takeoffs and material pricing for civil scopes, including but not limited to earthworks & excavation, concrete (base work, formwork, rebar, placement), underground utilities (water, sewer), roadways, retaining walls, fencing, and site works
  • Build pricing using standardized templates, historical cost data, and Google Sheets
  • Apply contingency considerations based on project risk, logistics, and delivery conditions
  • Prepare complete estimates and pricing tables for internal review, including labor, material, and equipment costs
  • Coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing and perform scope leveling
  • Lead the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring compliance with all client and contractual requirements, inclusions, and assumptions
  • Participate in internal pricing reviews with management prior to submission
  • Support bid submissions for public, private, and negotiated work
  • Work closely with project managers, leadership, and field teams to validate scope and approach
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing and ensure competitive bids
  • Participate in estimate reviews and formal handover meetings once projects are awarded
  • Maintain organized estimating records and documentation
  • Track bid activity and assist with post-bid reviews as required
  • Contribute ideas to improve templates, workflows, and estimating accuracy
  • Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates

Role Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in civil construction estimating
  • Background in civil scopes such as concrete, excavation, underground utilities, and earthworks
  • Ability to work full-time in the office in Nisku
  • Minimal travel required, occasional site visits
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • A solid understanding of current building systems, materials, and building codes
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar is considered an asset. Equivalent experience will be considered
  • Experience using digital takeoff tools and spreadsheet-based estimating
  • Comfortable working with Google Suite (Sheets, Drive, Docs)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing on certain projects
  • Able to pass a criminal record and background check
