We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Cardio-Pulmonary Technician to join our Pulmonary Function Lab team.

Employment Status: Permanent Part-time 
Hours of Work: Must be able to work 8 hour day shifts, and rotating Saturdays as required.
Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site

Reporting Relationship:Manager, Ambulatory Medical Clinic
Hourly Rate: $ $34.99

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine diagnostic tests, which include spirometry, walking oximetry, diffusion testing, lung volumes, airway resistance, respiratory muscle forces, bronchial provocation testing, Methacholine testing, and any other diagnostic testing for both in and outpatients according to the policy and procedure manual
  • Provide education to patients during testing and answer any questions they may have.
  • Calibrate, clean, and maintain diagnostic equipment and recognize when equipment malfunctions.
  • Document and maintain accurate patient records and observations.
  • Assist with the ordering and maintaining of departmental supplies and documentation of equipment calibration logs, equipment maintenance, and supply inventory.
  • Assists in quality control of testing equipment and quality assurance audits.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality, safe, accurate and reliable testing.
  • Make sure that implementation of safety protocols is in place.
  • Maintain and follow all infection control procedures.
  • May be required to lead in-service trainings and help during new-employee orientation

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an Accredited Cardio-pulmonary or Pulmonary Function program or B.Sc. in Human Physiology, Biology, and Kinesiology
  • Registered and in good standing with the Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT) or Student/Eligible registration and will challenge & pass the CACPT examination within 2 year of hiring (completion of 1800 hours practice).
  • Certification and bi-annual maintenance of Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Experience and training in pulmonary function testing and cardio-pulmonary stress testing preferred.
  • Previous respiratory care experience, an asset. Previous experience working with patients in a hospital or clinic environment preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of pulmonary anatomy/physiology is essential.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to work well both autonomously and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to Humber River's patient safety program.
  • Commitment to customer service, quality patient care, evidence based practice, and a clear understanding of professional standards.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
