- Develop designs that balance architectural vision, client aspirations, and buildability by applying a range of architectural styles and design trends to each project.
- Apply building science and occupant comfort principles to inform design decisions and ensure quality outcomes.
- Manage multiple projects independently while collaborating with the design team and external partners, sharing technical and aesthetic expertise to deliver high-quality, on-time results and supporting collective project goals.
- Review plans, sign off with BCIN, and submit drawings to municipalities.
- Interpret zoning by-laws and advise clients on building allowances.
- Coordinate with builders, consultants, and suppliers (EWP/truss).
- Review structural drawings from engineers.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and organized for client and municipal submissions.
What you bring:
At Muskoka Lumber, we are looking for a professional who combines technical skill with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Required skills, abilities and attributes:
- Proven expertise in high-end residential design, with strong aesthetic judgment, ability to apply diverse architectural styles, and skill in translating client vision into buildable, practical designs.
- Graduate of 2 - 3 year Architectural or Civil Technology program (Diploma).
- 5+ years' experience working independently on custom residential design projects.
- BCINs: Legal, House/Small Buildings, Plumbing House, and HVAC House.
- AATO or CET membership considered an asset; Architectural Technologist preferred.
- Valid (G) Ontario Driver's license, with acceptable drivers abstract.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and local Simcoe/Muskoka zoning/by-law requirements, with proven experience managing municipal submissions from initial review to BCIN sign-off.
- Proficient in Revit LT, AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite, with experience or willingness to learn specialized software including EWP layout (Sapphire Supply), single member sizing (WoodWorks), and HVAC design (Right-Suite Universal).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail, with proven ability to meet deadlines while balancing competing and changing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, municipal officials, and design team members.
