The Office of Indigenous Initiatives and Indigenous House at UTSC works to mobilize University of Toronto's commitments to The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, 2015, as outlined in Answering the Call – Wecheehetowin. Following the report, the Office guides the University of Toronto Scarborough's efforts in amplifying Indigenous voices and Indigenous place keeping on campus.

Your opportunity:
The Indigenous House is an anchoring space that brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners, supports and celebrates Indigenous excellence and Indigenous epistemologies, and connects the campus to Indigenous communities and treaty partners locally and from across Turtle Island. In its architectural design, governance, programming, and outreach initiatives, Indigenous House aims to be a welcoming space for learning, teaching, and research as well as a space for social connection, reflection, ceremony, and broader engagement. It is a priority for Indigenous House to be a space that supports Indigenous members of the UTSC community, especially existing Indigenous students, faculty, staff and librarians. This space will recognize and reflect principles of Indigenous self-determination and governance.
University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations and Projects Manager, Indigenous House. This role will report to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives and Indigenous House, working closely to lead project management for Indigenous House and acting as the primary contact and liaison for all day-to-day operations. Oversight of the Indigenous House as a sacred space will be managed by the incumbent in spaces such as the Gathering Circle, Sunken Teaching Garden and the Large Communal event space, in which Indigenous protocols will be forefront when establishing policies and practices for internal and external communities. The incumbent will further serve as a primary liaison with Indigenous communities and project partners, while actively planning and providing logistical and communications support for project-related events and non-academic programming, ensuring alignment with the campus objectives for the newly built Indigenous House.
The incumbent works in a complex environment that requires a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality. The role requires collaboration with colleagues to facilitate access to and to promote a genuine sense of belonging at UTSC for Indigenous peoples and communities.
Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous. Recognizing that there are a variety of terms that potential candidates may use to self-identify, the University uses the term "Indigenous" in this search, which forms part of the U of T Responses to Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to encompass the people of Turtle Island, including those who identify as First nations, Metis, Inuk (Inuit), Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian people.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and revising business methods that support administrative workflow and objectives
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts with an Indigenous focus
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities in collaboration with the Director, Indigenous Initiatives and Indigenous house
- Generating and analysis of reports, which includes tracking and collecting information, providing analysis to leadership, etc.
- Responding to escalated complaints using informal negotiation skills
- Cultivating ongoing, high-profile prospective partnerships that advance strategic agendas and research
- Developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for project(s)
- Developing and maintaining procedures for the use of space and equipment
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. A degree in Indigenous Studies would be an asset.
- Six to seven years of relevant and related experience working in and with Indigenous communities.
- The successful candidate will be required to have lived experience as an Indigenous person.
- Strong experience in managing administrative processes and developing standard operating documents/procedures
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous educational issues and of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report, Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP), and other resources pertaining to Indigenous communities
- Experience in event planning, including the administrative and logistical details for events and/or programs, including monitoring associated budgets and finances
- Strong grasp of project management fundamentals with demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary projects that includes managing project resources, engaging diverse stakeholders, establishing milestones and communicating project deliverables and status
- Must be able to demonstrate success in facilitating partnerships with constituents from a variety of institutional areas.
- Demonstrated experience with marketing content creation.
- Demonstrated collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources and stakeholders
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suites (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
