Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Legal will assist the Legal Department with supporting the business units of Seaspan Shipyards. The position will be exposed to various areas of the law, with a primary focus on contracts and commercial.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
- Work in collaboration with the Legal Department and Seaspan Shipyards' business units.
- Review and provide comments on contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and legal correspondence.
- Consider Legal Department processes and assess areas for improvement.
- Support negotiation of customer and supplier contracts.
- Draft contract terms for supply arrangements and assists Supply Chain Management to draft terms of shipyard procurement contracts.
- Prepare materials to obtain governance authorizations for contracts.
- Support the preparation of materials, presentations, and other documentation as required for meetings.
- Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

This position may involve defense articles and/or technical data regulated by the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR") and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act.
