Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Program Services will assist in various aspects of project management, supporting the delivery of key business activities under the guidance of experienced professionals. This internship is designed to offer practical exposure to the shipbuilding industry, project coordination, market research, program delivery, contract management, and cross-departmental collaboration, providing invaluable experience for career development in project management and engineering fields.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
- Support the development of competitive bid packages and solicitation responses, contributing to technical inputs and project planning requirements.
- Assist Project Manager during the execution of engineering projects, including but not limited to planning, budgeting, scope definition, oversight, progress tracking and delivery of tasks.
- Assist in developing and implementing the Program Services operating model, including processes for mobilization, control, reporting, and management.
- Assist in conducting market research and analysis to support the development of capability and service models.
- Collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders including VSY teams, engineering disciplines and external customers to support project alignment and delivery.
- Assist in project mobilization, execution, and control, contributing to status reports and monitoring program performance.
- Assist in preparing management reports and presentations on project status and performance metrics and attend review meetings to summarize risks and opportunities.
- Work with integrated project teams across various disciplines to execute Program Services contracts and support multiple stakeholders.
What you'll bring
- Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree program in Engineering, Business, or a related field, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering students.
- Basic understanding of project management principles and an interest in developing practical project delivery skills.
- Strong interest in shipbuilding, manufacturing, construction or engineering industries.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, PowerBI)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
