Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
As the Intern, Waterfront Change and part of the Detail Design team, you will play a key role in ensuring engineering changes are properly captured and reflected in both drawings and 3D models. Your contributions will directly support the Waterfront Change Team (WCT) and Liaison Engineering, helping bridge the gap between design and build while supporting production readiness.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
• Review and interpret engineering drawings to identify and support implementation of design changes
• Assist in verifying updates in the 3D model (Cadmatic/eShare) to ensure alignment with approved changes and production needs
• Work closely with Engineering, Production Support, WCTs, CMDM, and Liaison teams to track and incorporate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) into models and documentation
• Help maintain drawing revision control and ensure proper integration of changes into design deliverables
• Support drawing reviews by identifying discrepancies, flagging conflicts, and proposing clarifications to streamline transition to production
• Update and manage data in Excel spreadsheets and visualization tools such as Power BI to track drawing and model changes
• Collaborate on the development of shop orders, budgets, and hold or inspection points as design changes are finalized
What you'll bring
• Enrollment in an Engineering or Engineering Technology program
• Basic understanding of 3D CAD and design tools such as Cadmatic, eShare, Navisworks, ShipConstructor, or AutoCAD
• Ability to read, interpret, and mark up engineering drawings and bills of materials
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook
• Exposure to or interest in Power BI, Power Automate, and eShare is an asset
• Understanding of manufacturing workflows and how design integrates with planning and production processes
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working both independently and in cross-functional teams
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain design-related topics to technical and non-technical audiences

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
