Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

As an Intern, Liaison Engineering (or Liaison Engineering Support), you will be part of the frontline engineering team supporting production on the shop floor. Your role is to help resolve real-time construction issues, ensure engineering intent is maintained, and support the capture of changes through proper engineering processes. You will work closely with Senior Liaison Engineers, Production, and the Waterfront Change Team (WCT) to bridge the gap between design and build.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do
• Support Liaison Engineers with production issue resolution by attending the shop floor, wearing appropriate PPE, and inspecting issues firsthand
• Work directly with a dedicated Senior Liaison Engineer to assess problems, evaluate constraints, and develop practical, buildable solutions
• Review engineering drawings, models, and specifications to understand design intent and identify impacts to production
• Assist in the preparation, mark-up, and release of liaison sketches and field solutions in accordance with VSY standards, under senior guidance
• Support the initiation and tracking of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) resulting from production issues
• Coordinate with Production, Waterfront Change Teams (WCTs), CMDM, and Design teams to ensure approved solutions are clearly communicated and implemented
• Verify that approved changes are reflected in drawings, sketches, and 3D models as required
• Help document field resolutions, lessons learned, and change impacts to support continuous improvement
• Maintain accurate records of liaison activities including issue logs, sketches, and change status tracking

What you'll bring
• Enrollment in an Engineering or Engineering Technology program
• Ability and willingness to work in an active shipyard and production environment
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings, bills of materials, and 3D models
• Familiarity with CAD and visualization tools such as Cadmatic, eShare, Navisworks, ShipConstructor, or AutoCAD is an asset
• Strong observational and problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
• Comfortable communicating with production trades, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple open issues simultaneously
• Eagerness to learn, take direction from senior engineers, and grow within a liaison engineering role

Why you'll love working here
• Gain hands-on experience solving real production challenges on nationally significant shipbuilding projects
• Work directly on the shop floor and see how engineering decisions translate into real-world construction
• Learn from experienced Senior Liaison Engineers in a supportive, mentorship-driven environment
• Build a strong foundation for a future career in Liaison Engineering, Production Support, or Waterfront Change roles
