Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The position of Intern, Detail Planning reports to the Detail Planning Supervisor in Production Support. This role supports the production planning teams during ship construction and systems commissioning. The intern will assist in developing and maintaining detailed plans to help sequence work in support of turning on systems and ensuring efficient production execution.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
• Review drawings
• Interpret and understand bills of materials
• Apply applicable run rules for material availability
• Understand production schedules and sequence work within planned activity windows
• Review and maintain data in ERP and document control systems
• Liaise with stakeholders including Engineering, Production Support, and Operations
• Assist with maintenance of electrical planning databases and dashboards
• Coordinate trade input into work packages and sequencing to reflect preferred production methods and processes
• Perform additional duties as assigned
What you'll bring
• Enrollment in a relevant Engineering, Technical, or related program.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning is preferred
• Experience running Python scripts and task automation is preferred
• Working knowledge of CAD software suites and document control systems and databases such as Navisworks, Ship Constructor, and AutoCAD is preferred
• Knowledge of document control systems and databases
• Ability to apply inventory and material management practices
• Ability to work well independently with limited direction and in a team environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly
• Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail while maintaining big-picture goals

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
