Our project management office is looking to hire a Project Controls Specialist to join their team.

Do you have what it takes?  

You might be a great fit if you bring some of the following:

  • A solid analytical foundation : you hold a degree in engineering, business, finance, or a related field with 1-3 years of experience
  • An interest in project financial management : you are comfortable working in Excel, ERP and are eager to expand your experience project control systems such as Workday, SAP, or Oracle 
  • A data-driven mindset : you enjoy using EVM, cost, and schedule performance metrics to analyze labor hours, budgets, commitments, and variances
  • A collaborative working style : you communicate clearly and work effectively with project managers, finance partners, and technical teams to gather data and deliver meaningful reports

The Project Controls Specialist supports the project management office with reporting, cost control, and performance analysis. The role works with financial systems to compile and analyze project data, maintain accurate cost and progress reporting, and collaborate with project managers and the finance team to deliver reporting to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with company financial systems and processes to collect and analyze labour hours and cost data.
  • Develop project reporting and dashboards using data visualization techniques to communicate key metrics.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly project reports.
  • Track purchase orders, subcontract commitments, and related expenditures.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of baseline budgets.
  • Support project managers in managing their budgets through reporting and analysis.
  • Build and maintain best practices across the organization for project costing and budget management.
  • Assists in analyzing and using financial data to identify key project issues.
  • Assists in assembling data for trending and forecasting.
  • Support KPI development and compile data for regular reporting.
  • Apply scope control, change management, and earned value methodology when supporting project performance tracking.
  • Support training of colleagues to understand project costing, project management vs. budget, and financial tracking processes.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proven experience in project controls, cost management, or project financial management, supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, experience working with ERP and project control systems (e.g., Workday, SAP or Oracle) is an asset
  • Working understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts and cost/schedule performance metrics
  • Solid understanding of project accounting, including accruals, commitments, and cost tracking. Ability to analyze large data sets to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and organizational skills; excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Experience: 1–3 years in project controls, cost analysis, or scheduling

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Salary: $59,925.00 CAD plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan
