Position Summary 

The Transportation Operations Supervisor is responsible for the effective utilization of drivers, equipment, and tools to maximize service and productivity while remaining compliant with Provincial and Federal regulations and company policies. This individual will manage internal and external operations tasks, including management of and communication with drivers and management. In addition, this individual will coach and supervise drivers to improve service, safety, and productivity in support of company objectives.

Responsibilities: 

  • Daily supervision and management of fleet dispatchers, and Truck Drivers
  • Coordinate and direct the driver activities and assignments, including, but not limited to daily delivery or any other activities involving the driving workforce
  • Manage drivers' use of e-logs and timecards, analytical analysis of driver performance, coach and provide feedback to drivers on how to improve performance, provide clean reporting data for departmental and company-wide performance reporting
  • Handle all incoming calls and ensure timely responses to drivers, carriers, etc., communicating any issues to drivers and Operations Management as needed
  • Represent company and department professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining positive relations with drivers and internal partners
  • Utilize department tools to perform daily delivery planning, fleet backhaul planning, all facets of load and trip planning and work instruction to be provided to the driver
  • Responsible for influencing positive morale, focus on safety, compliance and company culture
  • Carry out all on-boarding and recurrent training
  • Address driver concerns as they arise and report issues to management and HR as needed
  • Work with Router/Planner and Transportation Operations Management to increase backhaul percentage and minimize empty miles
  • Monitor and ensure all loads are dispatched in a timely manner in compliance with planned schedule, documenting all late shipments including the reason for the shipment dispatching after the scheduled dispatch time, missed arrival times, driver issues, equipment issues, etc.
  • Work with Transportation Operations Management to coordinate the most efficient and cost-effective mode of delivery for all shipments
  • Work with Management and drivers to implement and administer company safety and accident reporting policies and procedures including Armor and Shield to measure and reduce the occurrence and cost of collisions, injuries, near-misses, and equipment damage
  • Track equipment usage to maintain proper utilization and timely repairs
  • Works with Fleet Maintenance Supervisor
  • Track and report all driver attendance incidents to ensure staffing levels are adequate
  • Ensure all payroll, and timekeeping records are accurate and reported in a timely manner to Management and Payroll
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and provincial and federal regulations and maintain appropriate and accurate documentation of the same, including but not limited to driver compliance for random drug screening, certification of violations/MVR, and annual medical reviews
  • Ensure all equipment inspections are completed and vehicle registration and Inspection Reports are updated
  • Organize and direct all relevant activities in a manner to ensure safe, cost-effective, on-time operating performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education preferred or industry experience 
  •  valid AZ/Class 1 driver's license
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Minimum of 5 years of transportation experience with forestry product Previous supervisory experience required.
