Job Purpose

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of projects from contract award through to final close out. This role oversees project teams, budgets, schedules, and client relationships while ensuring safety, quality and profitability across multiple projects.

Responsibilities
  • Display a commitment to Waiward's incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Participate in management team activities as required, contributing to strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure project-level risk, issue, and opportunity receive appropriate escalation and resolution at the corporate level when required.
  • Act as mentor and leader to the Project Management Team, establish best-practice project management standards.
  • Support pre-award activity, including bid review, risk assessment, and contract negotiation.
  • Exercise due diligence in review of customer contracts and specifications to ensure alignment with proposal and executed agreements.
  • Lead project kick-off meeting, providing clear direction and alignment to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment through communication of project requirements, risk, and opportunity to all Waiward departments.
  • Ensure project setup and documentation align with Waiward project management standard sand departmental requirements.
  • Provide leadership in contract change management, including timely customer notification, cost control, schedule impact evaluation, and invoicing.
  • Maintain accountability for overall project financial performance, including cost control, forecasting, billing readiness, and subcontract vendor performance.
  • Maintain oversight of project schedule in coordination with drafting and production to meet delivery commitment.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships while proactively identifying business opportunities and value-added solutions.
  • Participate in department-related human resources activity and support additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of project management experience in structural steel fabrication, industrial construction, or related heavy construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection, and applicable standards.
  • Proven experience with contract administration, including pre-award review, change management, and negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, cost control, earned value, and financial forecasting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining integrated project schedules.
  • Proficiency in project management and ERP systems; strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and vendors for scope, cost, quality, and schedule compliance.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and client-facing abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements

  • The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time, and extensive reading.
  • The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
