Hybrid - This internship requires you to report to the office up to three times a week, or as determined by the team. Locations:
Sunnyvale, California; Mountain View, California. About the Team:
Join our Simulation group, which builds cutting-edge AI and ML models powering realistic environments for testing and training advanced systems. Our simulations create diverse scenarios that enhance and validate decision-making policies across robotics and autonomous systems. Imagine being part of a virtual training ground where complex systems learn to operate safely and effectively. Our team works with generative models, reinforcement learning, and other ML approaches to ensure our simulated entities—whether vehicles, robots, or other agents—interact in realistic and dynamic ways. Collaboration is key as we work closely with teams in behaviors, perception, safety engineering, and infrastructure to deliver high-fidelity environments at scale. What You'll Do: Assist in the development of ML and RL models, including design and optimization of training loops. Streamline integration and contribute to ML infrastructure, metrics, and data pipelines. Collaborate with the AI/ML team for rapid experimentation and deployment in simulation environments. Apply your software engineering skills to accelerate project timelines in robotics and simulation frameworks. Gain insights into how simulation technologies impact real-world AI and ML systems. Engage in code reviews, technical discussions, and design reconsiderations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, systems, test, and safety, ensuring seamless integration of software. Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders. Required Qualifications: Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with machine learning concepts and frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Strong programming skills in Python or C++. Exposure to reinforcement learning, generative models, or GPU programming. Genuine interest in simulation, robotics, or autonomous systems. Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated software engineering experience through previous internships, work experience, coding competitions, or publications. Experience in ML pipelines, optimization, or robotics competitions. Intent to return to your degree program after completing the internship/co-op. Compensation:
The monthly salary for this role is $12,300. A one-time taxable stipend will be provided to eligible students selected for the 2026 Student Program. What You'll Get from Us (Benefits): Paid US GM Holidays. GM Family First Vehicle Discount Program. Potential for growth within GM based on performance. Networking opportunities with company leaders and peers at intern events.
