Your role as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist is crucial to our innovative roadmap. You will collaborate with talented scientists and engineers to develop cutting-edge Machine Learning systems that enhance educational products for instructors and students worldwide. Your work will affect billions of submissions and millions of assessments across platforms, enabling revolutionary advances in writing detection, automated feedback, and educational integrity. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with product owners and subject matter experts to refine key questions and identify actionable insights. Curate and annotate datasets responsibly while maintaining best practices in data collection and model management. Generate trainable datasets from raw data using SQL queries and scripting languages, employing visualization when necessary. Develop and optimize Machine Learning models, applying best practices in dataset selection, architecture, and model tuning. Utilize and enhance Language Models, executing prompt engineering and orchestration for third-party and internal LMs. Stay updated with industry advancements by reading research papers and experimenting with new architectures. Optimize models for large-scale production deployment. Communicate model insights and limitations to stakeholders effectively. Write clean, efficient, modular code, including automated tests and documentation. Stay informed about technological trends and articulately explain decisions to your team. Qualifications: Proven experience in building ML models using text data, with additional expertise in other modalities like vision and speech being a plus. Strong theoretical foundation in Machine Learning and Deep Learning principles. A minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience, proficient in Python, SQL, Unix-based systems, git, and GitHub. Hands-on skills in ML development, including tracking experiments with tools like AWS SageMaker and Hugging Face. Familiarity with Language Models (training and fine-tuning) and knowledge of industry-standard LM families. A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI, or a related field. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively. Fluency in written and spoken English. Preferred Skills: Experience in producing scalable code for production, including back-end API services. DevOps capabilities, such as using Docker and AWS services. Familiarity with front-end development using frameworks like React for demonstrations and prototypes. Experience in advanced prompting or fine-tuning LLMs on popular platforms. A portfolio showcasing your work through websites, presentations, or open-source contributions. Salary Information: The expected annual salary for this role ranges from $111,000 to $185,000, with bonus eligibility. Actual compensation will be finalized in writing upon offer, influenced by various factors such as experience, skills, and market considerations.
