Join our Stablecoin Payments team to help shape global finance. We are focused on creating the essential infrastructure for stablecoin payments, facilitating fast, secure, and scalable money transactions worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and scale systems that enable deposits, withdrawals, and third-party payments across Coinbase products such as Retail, Exchange, Prime, and Custody. You'll lead impactful projects, integrate new blockchains, and work closely with diverse teams to enhance stablecoin utility for businesses of all sizes. Your responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and maintaining backend systems and infrastructure that facilitate stablecoin payments, including pay-ins, pay-outs, deposits, and withdrawals. Acting as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for key projects, overseeing their progression from design to production with a strong sense of accountability. Collaborating with cross-functional teams—including product, design, infrastructure, and compliance—to deliver robust and scalable solutions. Working closely with various teams across Coinbase (e.g., CDP Payments API, Onramp APIs, CoinBiz) to incorporate stablecoin functionality into core products. Creating internal and external APIs to streamline the use of stablecoin-powered money movement for businesses and partners. Identifying and addressing performance, scalability, and reliability challenges across systems. Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the development of a strong, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture. Staying informed on the evolving crypto ecosystem to identify opportunities for enhancing utility, adoption, and innovation in stablecoin infrastructure. What we seek in you: A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering. Established experience in building and operating large-scale backend systems, preferably in fintech, payments, or crypto. Strong expertise in backend technologies (e.g., Go, Java, or similar) and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP). A deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and system design. Familiarity with crypto or blockchain technologies is advantageous but not mandatory. A product-oriented mindset—you understand the 'why' behind your work. A commitment to ownership, with the capability to drive projects fully as a DRI. A collaborative attitude, enabling effective teamwork across product, design, and engineering. A passion for developing foundational technology in a fast-paced, high-impact domain. Desirable qualifications: Experience with stablecoins, DeFi protocols, or on-chain payments. Familiarity with smart contract platforms (e.g., Ethereum, Solana, Base) and associated developer tools. Contributions to open-source crypto or blockchain initiatives. Experience in multi-chain or cross-chain application development. Knowledge of regulatory or compliance considerations in crypto payments. An interest in or experience with tokenomics, financial primitives, or digital asset frameworks. Prior experience in a startup or rapidly growing environment where adaptability was key. Depending on your work location, the annual base salary for this position ranges from $186,005 to $218,900 USD. Full-time offers from Coinbase include bonus eligibility, equity options, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
