Machine Learning Team Leader (LLM) At Blue Rose Research, we are dedicated to leveraging data and AI tools to empower Democrats in their electoral pursuits. Our dynamic team combines engineering, data science, and political strategy to drive impactful decisions for leading campaigns and progressive organizations. We analyze elections, test advertising strategies, and utilize generative AI to help campaigns swiftly respond to current news with effective messaging. Having guided the allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars in modern campaigns, we are a small but passionate team driven by innovation and a commitment to using technology for the greater good. We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Team Leader to oversee a talented team of senior data scientists focused on creating ML-driven solutions that inform strategy for civic leaders and organizations. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and have a key role in shaping the team's roadmap and technical vision. This is a hands-on position where collaboration will be essential as you work alongside your team to build robust infrastructure, train models, and deploy them effectively. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage a team of senior data scientists dedicated to fine-tuning large language models, conducting innovative research, and developing production inference systems. Partner with senior leadership to establish the team’s strategic roadmap and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Facilitate weekly meetings and standups to maintain project momentum and address any obstacles faced by the team. Provide technical guidance on various projects utilizing open-weight and commercial LLMs, along with other advanced machine learning techniques. Oversee experimentation and optimization efforts to ensure models meet high standards of accuracy, reliability, and readiness for production. Encourage creative problem-solving and rigorous methodologies when addressing unique challenges that require custom solutions beyond standard ML techniques. Translate intricate model outputs into practical insights for stakeholders, ensuring technical work translates into real-world impact. About You: At least 1 year of experience managing data science teams; 6 or more years of experience in machine learning or data engineering. Strong foundation in applied statistics, model selection, fine-tuning, and evaluation. Proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX. Experience in building and deploying scalable production ML and deep learning workflows. Familiarity with large language models, embeddings, agent-based workflows, and retrieval-augmented generation systems. Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform. Skilled in exploratory data analysis and adept at navigating imperfect real-world data. Thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift rapidly, and impact is immediate. A collaborative leader who communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical teams. You are mission-driven, eager to explore civic and political applications of AI, and committed to fostering a positive team culture. What We Offer: Salary: $165,000 - $210,000 annually, based on experience. Competitively comprehensive medical, dental, and health benefits. Remote-first work environment, with opportunities for in-person meetings primarily in NYC and DC (focused on East Coast hours). A fast-moving, collaborative culture committed to innovative work with tangible impacts. Growth opportunities to learn new skills, take on challenges, and lead significant projects. An inclusive atmosphere welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds; you don't need to meet every qualification to apply. All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
