We are searching for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in media, who excels at working with encoding hardware and software, and is skilled in maximizing hardware performance through innovative firmware and architecture. The Role As a Senior Software Engineer in Video Technologies focused on Cloud Gaming, you will: Design, prototype, and implement encoding algorithms and software workflows that will enhance Netflix cloud gaming experiences. Develop cost-effective solutions utilizing hardware and network resources, balancing render quality, encoding quality, latency, and network conditions. Explore high-risk, high-reward solutions that align with Netflix's unique cloud gaming approach. Collaborate with external vendors, guiding their development towards low-latency encoding that benefits both parties. Engage with complex video encoding, rendering, and transmission challenges, contributing to smoother and more engaging gaming experiences for millions of players. About You You are a Senior Software Engineer who: Thrives in a dynamic environment and works efficiently with cross-functional teams. Aims for personal and team improvement continually. Possesses excellent software development skills with a successful track record in Real-time Video Encoding or related fields like Computer Graphics, Network Transport, or Video Quality. Identifies improvement opportunities in existing systems and can devise and implement iterative solutions. Is eager to apply your expertise to a product that impacts millions of lives daily. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of experience in multimedia software development for real-time systems, with strong debugging and problem-solving abilities. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master's or PhD is a plus). Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C, Go, or other object-oriented languages. Deep understanding of video compression and processing techniques, including codecs like H.264/AVC, HEVC, and AV1. Strong foundation in real-time image and signal processing. Bonus Points Experience in cloud gaming. Skills in optimizing software performance on constrained hardware. Familiarity with hardware video encoders and System on Chips (SoCs). Involvement in open-source multimedia projects (e.g., ffmpeg, x264, avisynth, webm). Experience with assessing image and video quality. Our compensation structure is purely annual salary based; we do not offer bonuses. Each year, you can choose how much of your compensation you want in salary and how much in stock options. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
